After 12 years service in the Royal Navy, my wife and I, and our two children, moved to Canada in 1968. For 20 years we ran a successful Real Estate business. During this period we lived in the High Park area of Toronto. We had one of the old gracious homes that are quite prevalent in that area. Eventually the children grew up and left home. Lucy and I were now living in this large, empty house.

It was at this point in our lives that we decided to open the house as a B&B. It was called Westminster House, and it quickly became a popular destination for B&B travelers from around the world.

Lucy and I consider ourselves to be warm and gracious hosts. We enjoy being around people. Lucy makes room reservations, greets and entertains guests at breakfast, and provides fantastic food. I help with local travel, Niagara Falls trips, and provide airport pickup service, and in addition, take care of all the computer and Internet work. Also during this period, work was started on the building and completion of our beautiful sailing yacht “Barrosa.” When complete, we sold our home and started on what was to have been, a voyage around the world.

For two years we sailed the east coast of the U.S.A. and down through the Bahamas and the Caribbean. We saw many wonderful things and places. We met many kind and wonderful people. (It's interesting to note that the type of people who travel B&B and those sailing yachts are very similar in nature.) Many times we helped other people on their yacht with different problems, and in turn, we received help. Many of those times, they were complete strangers, but not for long.

An unfortunate accident on Sunday May 5th, 1991, resulted in the sinking of "Barrosa" in 7,000 feet of water, 100 miles from Haiti. All were saved on board including Lucy and I, our grandson Jamie, and our two small dogs. We were rescued by helicopter from the U.S. Coastguard. After this unfortunate accident we returned to Canada to start our lives over. I started in the computer business while my wife Lucy started back with Lucy's Bed & Breakfast. We have now been B&B hosts in Mississauga for the last 15 years, 12 years at 5465 Middleport Crescent. Our present home was designed as a Bed and Breakfast property and was completed 12 years ago.  We now enjoy the company of our guests and our beautiful cat, Sasha.  The popularity of Lucy’s Bed and breakfast continues to grow as we receive guests from around the world.

Increasingly during the winter months, we are host to a number of family's emigrating to Canada. We try to make the first few weeks in Canada, a pleasant experience as they start on their Canadian journey.
